1988 Harley-Davidson FXSTC Softail Custom
Initially released in the 1984 model year, the Softail frame was designed to look visually similar to the rigid frame bikes of the 50s while retaining the comfort of rear suspension by means of a triangular swingarm and pair of horizontally mounted gas-pressure shocks hidden beneath the transmission. The Softail frame became the platform for numerous models including the FXSTC Softail Custom.

Powered by a carburettored 1340 cc 60hp Evolution 45° V-twin engine solidly mounted to the bike's frame (in traditional Harley fashion) the 1988 Softail Custom gets power to the road by means a cable operated 9-plate wet clutch, a 5-speed transmission and belt final drive.

With a low seat position, large narrow front wheel, long slanted forks, staggered dual exhausts, bulky gas tank with classic instrument panel, buckhorn bars, small lights and the typical custom "bobbed" rear guard rounded off the 50s look.

In total 6 621 FXSTC Softail Custom were built during the 1988 model year.
